“Ito pong SatREx ay isang tool na pwede nating magamit for guidance where in near-real-time po ay na-observe ang pag-ulan anywhere in our country,” paliwanag ni Dr. Marcelino Villafuerte II, ang chief of impact assessment and applications section ng PAGASA’s Climatology and Agrometeorology Division.

“SatREx provides satellite rainfall estimates observed in the past few hours and days at a particular location anywhere in the country,” saad sa isang Facebook post.

Lahad pa, “Multiple interactive maps allow users to determine how much rainfall is received over an area, with color-coded shadings indicating potential flood occurrence. (Data derived from Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP) provided by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency).”

“We translated information from that dataset, we extracted them, and used them for providing near-real-time rainfall estimates,” sey ni Dr. Villafuerte sa naganap na presscon nitong March 23.

Dagdag pa niya, “We translate such kinds of observed rainfall relative to historical rainfall data and determine areas with possibility of flooding,” dagdag niya.
