IBINANDERA ng sikat na Hollywood actor na si Leonardo DiCaprio ang kanyang suporta pagdating sa Masungi Georeserve.
Sa katunayan nga ay nanawagan pa siya kay Pangulong Bongbong Marcos na protektahan ito sa gitna ng mga talakayan na babawiin ang isang kasunduan noong 2017 sa pagitan ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) at Masungi Georeserve Foundation Inc. (MGFI).
Si Leonardo ay kilala sa pagiging advocate sa kalikasan at nagbahagi pa siya sa Instagram ng educational information tungkol sa Masungi.
Ayon sa kanya ang protected area sa Tanay, Rizal ay kasalukuyang nasa panganib na posibleng humarap sa banta ng pagmimina, pagtotroso, at marami pang iba.
“Masungi is a lush montane rainforest landscape outside of Manila, the bustling capital of the Philippines. In the late 1990s, much of Masungi was illegally deforested. Local communities fostered the development of the @masungigeoreserve, spurring efforts to restore this precious ecosystem. Patuloy pa niya, “Now this success is in jeopardy, as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources threatens to cancel the agreement that protects this area from prolific land-grabbing activities. This cancellation would set back the success of an internationally acclaimed conservation effort and leave the area vulnerable again to mining, logging, and illegal developments.”
Kasunod niyan ay binanggit na niya ang ating presidente at iginiit na tinutulungan ng Masungi ang Pilipinas pagdating sa sustainability aspects.

Hindi naman nagtagal ay naglabas ng pahayag ang DENR kaugnay sa concern ng Hollywood actor.
Nanindigan ang ahensya na mananaig ang “rule of law” sa nasabing lugar.

Ang Masungi Georeserve ay mina-manage ng Masungi Georeserve Foundation Inc. (MGFI) at pinondohan ng private firm na Blue Star Construction & Development Corporation.
