Pumanaw na si Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz ng Lingayen-Dagupan ngayong Miyerkules, 6:45 ng umaga sa gulang na 85.
Binawian ng buhay si Cruz habang nakaratay sa Cardinal Santos Hospital dahil sa malaon na niyang sakit, ayon sa Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
Ipinanganak si Cruz noong Nobyember 17, 1934 sa Balanga, Bataan.
Inordinahan siya bilang Katolikong pari noong Pebrero 9, 1962. Naging auxiliary bishop si Cruz ng Maynila mula 1976 hanggang 1978 at arsobispo ng Archdiocese of San Fernando mula 1978 hanggang 1988.
Nanungkulan naman siyang judicial vicar ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) National Tribunal of Appeals, at director ng CBCP Legal Office. Itinalaga siyang Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan noong Hulyo 15, 1991.
Maraming libro ang naisulat ni Cruz, kabilang na dito ang CBCP Guidelines on Sexual Abuse and Misconduct: A Critique, and Call of the Laity.
