Maynila wish magkaroon ng ‘Carlos Yulo Day’ tuwing August 4

BILANG pagpupugay sa two-time Olympic gold medalist na si Carlos Yulo, plano ng Manila City government na magkaroon ng tinatawag na “Carlos Yulo Day.”

Ayon kay Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, ang special day ay ise-celebrate tuwing August 4, ang petsa na nakuha ni Carlos ang ikalawang gintong medalya sa 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Hindi naman po siya non-working holiday. It’s just a commemoration po sa pagbibigay ng karangalan ng isang anak ng Maynila sa atin pong lungsod at sa bansa,” sey ni Mayor Honey sa interview ng News5.

Nilinaw rin ng alkalde na ito ay isang “working holiday” sakaling pumasa at maaprubahan ang inihain na resolusyon na pinangunahan ni Vice Mayor John Marvin Nieto.

“We just had our best Olympics. Let us all savor this historic moment,” sambit naman ng mayor sa isang pahayag.

Ang Olympic champion ay magkakaroon ng recognition rites sa Maynila bilang residente ng Malate.

Ang event ay mangyayari sa August 19 kung saan tatanggap siya ng P2 million incentive mula sa local government.

Magugunitang nauna nang nabigyan ang pole vaulter na si EJ Obiena ng cash incentive na worth P500,000 noong Miyerkules, August 14.

Si Obiena ay nakatakdang depensahan ang kanyang world ranking na gaganapin sa Diamond League sa Switzerland sa August 22.

Samantala, maaalalang gumawa ng kasaysayan si Carlos bilang first-ever Pinoy athlete na nagwagi ng multiple medals sa iisang Olympic event.

Ito ay matapos siyang mag-champion sa “men’s artistic gymnastics vault finals” noong August 3 at kinabukasan ay nanguna rin siya sa “men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercise.”
