Ferdinand Topacio duda sa ‘originality’ ng MMFF 2024 entry ni Vice, anyare?

KINUKWESTYON ni Atty. Ferdinand Topacio ang “originality” ng pelikulang “And the Breadwinner Is…,” ang isa sa entry ng Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2024 na pinagbibidahan ng TV host-comedian na si Vice Ganda.
Ayon kasi sa abogado, kapareho nito ang istorya ng iconic film na “Higit sa Lahat.”
“Isa lang po ang request ko, Sir. Based on the synopses I’ve heard, ‘yung pelikula ni Vice Ganda, the plot appears to be an exact duplicate of the plot of the 1955 film ‘Higit sa Lahat’ starring Rogelio Dela Rosa and Emma Alegre,” sey niya sa kalagitnaan ng question-and-answer portion sa naganap na launching ng MMFF 2024 kung saan nagpakilala siyang representative ng Borracho Film Production.
Pakiusap niya, “Could you please look into that? And if there are possible consequences as to copyright.”
Paliwanag din ni Atty. Topacio, “Kasi I’m a movie buff, I watch at least two movies a day, even old movies.”

“Pakitingin po ‘yung pelikulang ‘Higit sa Lahat’ with Rogelio de la Rosa and Emma Alegre, gan’un din po ang storya. Pakitingin lang po if this is a case of plagiarism,” giit pa niya.
Ang sagot naman sa kanya ni Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Don Artes, “Sige po, we’ll take note of your comment or observation. We’ll discuss it with the executive committee. We’ll decide on the matter.”
Kung matatandaan noong nakaraang taon, may sinabi rin ang abogado tungkol sa mga pelikula ni Vice.
“Dominated kasi ‘yung local industry ng foreign films. ‘Yun ang number one…‘yung mga movies na walang katuturan. Katulad ng mga movies ni Vice Ganda. ‘Yun ang namamayagpag eh,” sey niya noon.
Samantala, ang “And the Breadwinner Is…” ay mula sa direksyon ni Jun Robles Lana at ang mga screenwriters nito ay sina Daisy Cayanan at Jonathan Albano.
Bukod kay Vice, tampok din sa pelikula sina Eugene Domingo, Gina Pareño, Jhong Hilario, Maris Racal at Anthony Jennings.
Ilan pa sa mga entries ng upcoming film festival ay ang “Green Bones,” “Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital,” “Himala: Isang Musikal” at “The Kingdom.”
Ang natitirang limang movies upang mabuo ang magic ten ay ibabandera din very soon.
