PBA legend-comedian Yoyong Martires pumanaw na sa edad 77

PUMANAW na ang dating Filipino Olympian, PBA legend at comedian na si Rosalio “Yoyong” Martires kahapon, June 18. Siya ay 77 years old.
Kinumpirma ng pamilya ni Yoyong ang malungkot na balita ngayong araw, June 19, sa pamamagitan ng social media.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Rosalio ‘Yoyong’ D. Martires.
“He has peacefully joined our Creator yesterday, June 18, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

“He lived a very adventurous and colorful life. A loving husband, a doting father, a caring grandpa, a self-made man, an Olympian, a prolific basketball player, a comedian, a devoted public servant, and a child of Christ.
“Difficult steps to follow, indeed. You served God, our country, and your fellow men. Rest in Peace, papa. We love you!” ayon pa sa pahayag ng pamilya Martires.
Walang nabanggit na dahilan ng pagkamatay ng komedyante pero ayon sa isang ulat, kumplikasyon daw sa pneumonia ang naging sanhi ng kanyang pamamaalam.
Sa X (dating Twitter) post naman ng sports analyst na si Quinito Henson, ibinahagi nito ang balitang namaalam na si Martirez.

“PBA legend & former Pasig Vice Mayor Rosalio (Yoyong) Martirez passed away last night … he was 77 … rest in peace! We were together during the EASL Final 4 last March, he was quite a man! God bless Yoyong,” mensahe niya.
Sinabi naman ni coach Tim Cone na idol niya sa hardcourt ang dating komedyante at public servant, “Yoyong Martirez, one of my heroes on the hardcourt growing up, passed away. RIP. Always remembered.”
Unang naglaro bilang basketball player si Yoyong sa Southwestern University sa Cebu at kasunod nito ay kinuha siya ng San Miguel coach na si Ning Ramos at nakapaglaro sa PBA.
Ito ang naging daan para hirangin siyang isa sa mga basketball legend sa Pilipinas.
Bukod sa pagiging cager, sumabak din sa showbiz si Yoyong at karamihan sa mga nagawa niyang pelikula ay comedy kasama ang iconic trio nina Tito, Vic & Joey. Naging vice mayor at councilor din siya sa Pasig City.
