BILANG nalalapit na ang laban ng ating pambato na si Michelle Dee para sa Miss Universe pageant, muling nagpahayag ng all-out support ang kanyang ina na si Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez.

Kamakailan lang, nakapanayam ng INQUIRER ang veteran beauty queen kung saan inalala muna niya ang naging paghahanda sa dating sinalihang pageant sa Tokyo.

“I studied Japanese so I’d be able to use it and English at the competition, but I was really just being myself,” kwento niya.

Ang kanyang anak na si Michelle ang reigning Miss Universe Philippines na nakatakdang irepresenta ang ating bansa sa darating na Miss Universe pageant.

Chika pa ng proud mom, kahit bago pa sumali sa national pageant angkanyang anak ay madalas na niyang ipinaaalala ang pagma-manifest ng pagkapanalo.

At ‘yan daw ay paulit-ulit pa rin niyang sinasabi kay Michelle ngayong lilipad na ito patungong El Salvador.

“I told her to walk and present herself as if she were already wearing the crown,” saad niya.

Ani pa niya, “Now that she’s about to leave for El Salvador, I reminded her the same thing: Claim it.”

Ang short  interview ay nangyari sa fashion show ng designer na si Renee Salud sa Manila kung saan present ang ilang dating beauty queens.

Bukod kay Melanie, present din sina Binibining Pilipinas Universe 1990 Gem Padilla-Thomas, Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2005 Gionna Cabrera, Binibining Pilipinas Universe 1979 Criselda “Dang” Cecilio, Binibining Pilipinas-Tourism 1993 Jenette Fernando, at Miss Universe 1984 runner-up Desiree Verdadero Abesamis.

Sa isang interview, tiniyak ng Miss Universe Philippines 2023 na 200% ang ibibigay niya para sa kompetisyon.

“I’m giving it everything that I have. Two hundred percent of myself, I’m dedicating it to my crown,” sey niya.

Aniya pa, “I’m working on the different aspects of my campaign just to make sure that when I fly to El Salvador, I’m 100% ready. Walang mahahanap na butas.”

Samantala, bukas na ang online voting ng Miss Universe at pupwede niyo nang iboto kung sino sa mga kandidata ang nais niyang manalo.

Kailangan lang i-download ang Miss Universe app at ang unang pagboto lamang ay libre.

Ang mga nagwagi na ng Miss Universe title mula sa ating bansa ay sina Gloria Diaz (1969), Margarita Moran (1973), Pia Wurtzbach (2015), at Catriona Gray (2018).
