Si judge parang brgy captain

- October 25, 2013 - 03:00 AM

THE Supreme Court commenced a new
program called “Judicial Dispute Resolution”. It simply means “pagbabatiin ni Judge”. Let me put it this way: I heard one judge described himself, and I quote, “parang Barangay Captain.”

That brings to point the importance of a barangay captain—to stand referee in disputes between parties. Both in the Regional Trial Courts and Municipal Trial Courts in the entire Republic of the Philippines, from Aparri to Jolo, the judge will exert all his/her charm, influence and effort to bring the parties to a compromise agreement.

Purpose: Keep litigants out of court.

This coming October 28, please choose wisely. The Barangay Captain you choose has the rank of “Judge” in court proceedings.
This brings to mind another interesting development, that is, lawyers and parties have been known to stay past 6 pm in the courtroom as they wait for their turn to “go inside chambers”. A rare opportunity to address the judge directly and “tell-all”.
