MTRCB nangatwiran sa panawagan ni Bong na isaalang-alang ang kapakanan ng mga ‘no work, no pay’ staff ng ‘Showtime’

SINAGOT ng Movie and Television Review and Classification Board o MTRCB ang panawagan ni Sen. Bong Revilla, Jr. sa Office of the President na may kaugnayan sa kaso ng “It’s Showtime.”

Sakaling umapela muli ang noontime show ng ABS-CBN para sa 12-day suspension na ipinataw ng ahensya na pinamumunuan ni Lala Sotto-Antonio, sana raw ay isaalang-alang ang mga empleyadong nasa ilalim ng “no work, no pay” policy.

Ayon kay Sen. Bong, “Without getting into the merits of the case, sana na-consider ng MTRCB ang kapakanan nu’ng mga maliliit na staff at crew nu’ng show na wala namang kinalaman at kasalanan du’n sa nangyari.

“Sila ‘yung mga ‘no work-no pay’ na kung matutuloy ang suspension ay dalawang linggong walang kikitain at kakainin. I think lessons have been learned.

“Kung nagkaroon man ng pagkakamali, ang kasalanan ni Juan ay hindi kasalanan ni Pedro. So I hope we don’t punish those working hard day in-day out just to eke out a living,” sabi ng senador.

Ito naman ang sagot ng MTRCB sa ipinadalang official statement sa amin, “The decision of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to suspend ‘It’s Showtime’ and the ‘no work, no pay’ issue are two separate and distinct matters.

“The suspension, in fact, underscores the broader and more pressing matter of contractualization within the entertainment industry. The issue deserves sincere attention from the producer.

“The practice by the Producer, or Management to not regularize their employees, even when a show has been airing live for six days a week, for over a decade, highlights a much bigger problem than the show’s 12-airing-day suspension.

“We sincerely empathize with the hardworking individuals who will be affected once the suspension takes effect.

“However, we believe that the inability of the management to provide regular employment should not impinge on the duty of the MTRCB to uphold its mandate in ensuring the ethical compliance of broadcasting content by any production company or television network pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 1986.

“It remains the prerogative of the Producer/Management to suspend/sanction erring host/s as they deem fit, which has been the practice of other noontime shows, as hosts are beyond the jurisdiction of the MTRCB,” sabi pa sa statement.
