PINATUNAYAN ni San Mig Coffee Mixers shooting guard James Yap na kaya pa rin niyang pamunuan ang kanyang koponan matapos ihatid ito sa dalawang sunod na panalo sa nakalipas na linggo.
At dahil dito ay nakubra ni Yap ang parangal bilang Accel-PBA Player of the Week para sa period na Setyembre 2 hanggang 8.
Sa mahahalagang panalo laban sa Global Port at Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, ang dalawang beses na naging Most Valuable Player na si Yap ay nag-average ng 20.5 puntos at 6.5 rebounds.
Pero maliban sa kanyang mga numero ang mas mahalaga para kay San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone ay ang iba pang nagagawa ng kanyang premyadong manlalaro sa loob ng court.
“He’s turned his defense up,” sabi ni Cone. “Yeah, he’s shooting the ball well. But that means very little to me, from a coaching standpoint. To me he’s been doing all the other stuff and he’s really doing it now.”
“He deserves it (citation) from a scoring standpoint but also for the rest of the stuff. He’s led us. I think he has really inspired his teammates by his defense and the effort there,” dagdag pa ni Cone.
“Nagpapasalamat akong sobra sa mga teammates ko, kay coach Tim, sa coaching staff. Hindi talaga sila nag-give up sa akin kaya pursigido talaga akong mag-live up sa tiwala nila sa akin,” sabi naman ni Yap.
Bagamat inumpisahan ng 31-anyos na si Yap ang kumperensiya na may 5.0 puntos lamang bumawi naman siya matapos mag-average ng 19 puntos sa huling apat na laro.
