MAY makukuhang tulong mula sa Overseas Workers Welfare Administration ang mga Overseas Filipino Workers na nahawa ng HIV-ADS.
Ayon sa bagong AIDS Prevention and Control Law na magiging epektibo sa Enero 25, ang OWWA ay inatasan na suportahan at tulungan ang mga migrant worker na may HIV-AIDS.
“Under Section 37 of the new law, the OWWA, together with other agencies, is duty-bound to develop a program to provide a stigma-free comprehensive reintegration, care, and support program, including economic, social, and medical support for OFWs with HIV, regardless of employment status and stage in the migration process,” ani ACTS-OFW Rep. Aniceto Bertiz III.
Bago umalis ng bansa ay kailangang sumailalim sa HIV-AIDS seminar ang isang OFW. “The mandatory preventive education seminar is to be provided for free and at no cost to OFWs or to the staff concerned.”
Umabot sa 856 ang OFW na nahawa ng HIV mula Enero hanggang Nobyembre 2018. Mula 1984, 6,179 na ang kabuuang bilang ng OFW na nahawa nito o 10 porsyento ng 61,152 Filipino na nahawa.
Sa mga nahawang OFW, 86 porsyento (5,317) ang lalaki. Sa mga lalaki 72 porsyento ang nahawa dahil sa pakikipagtalik– 2,203 ang male-to-male sex at 1,607 ang pakikipagtalik sa kapwa lalaki at babae.
