OFW na may HIV dumami

UMABOT sa 697 overseas Filipino workers ang nahawa ng HIV sa unang siyam na buwan ng taon.

Ito ay mas mataas ng 13.7 porsyento sa 613 OFW na nahawa sa kaparehong panahon noong 2017, ayon kay ACTS-OFW Rep. John Bertiz III.

“Fighting AIDS through greater awareness and prevention is a top priority for us because one in 10 Filipinos living with HIV is a migrant worker,” ani Bertiz.

“OFWs are especially at risk because once they are exposed to foreign cultures, they tend to let their guard down.”

Mula ng simulan ng pagtatala sa mga kaso ng HIV-AIDS noong 1984, umabot na sa 6,135 OFW ang nahawa ng nakamamatay na sakit. Walumpu’t anim na porsyento rito ay lalaki at ang median age nila ay 32 porsyento.

Sa kaso ng mga lalaki 71 porsyento ang nahawa dahil sa male to male sex (2,176) at sex with both male and female (1,586).

Sa kabuuang 59,135 Filipino na ang naitala sa National HIV/AIDS Registry hanggang noong Setyembre.

Wala pang gamot na pumapatay sa HIV pero mayroong antiretroviral treatment na nakapagpapabagal sa sakit kung maagang made-detect.

Sa mga nabubuhay na may HIV-AIDS, 31,458 ang sumasailalim sa ART.
