Ayon sa resulta ng lifestyle check, umakyat ng P57.3 milyon ang net worth ni BOC Collector IV Maximo Reyes sa loob ng 10 taon.
Inilagay sa preventive suspension si Reyes dahil sa kasong Serious Dishonesty, Grave Misconduct at Conduct Prejudicial to the Best Interest of the Service.
Ayon sa Ombudsman, inimbestigahan nila si Reyes base na rin sa tip na kanilang natanggap tungkol sa panay-panay na paglabas ng basa ni Reyes.
Matapos maimbestigahan, lumabas na meron umanong di maipaliwanag na yaman na nagkakahalagang P89,194,806.37, na merong undeclared or misdeclared assets na nasa P44,562,440.67 ang kolektor.
Nadiskubre rin ng Ombudsman na bukod sa di maipaliwanag na yaman, hindi rin nag-file ng kanyang Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) para sa taong 2001 at 2009 si Reyes.—Inquirer
