Campaign giveaways ipinagbabawal na ng Comelec

KINOKONSIDERA nang ilegal ang pamimigay ng “giveaways” sa kasagsagan ng kampanya.

Ito ang inanunsyo mismo ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ngayong malapit na ang eleksyon para sa Barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan (SK).

Ayon sa inilabas na kautusan ni Comelec Executive Director na si Teopisto Elnas Jr., bawal na ang pamimigay ng kahit anong campaign materials na may pangalan, imahe, at simbolo ng mga tumatakbong kandidato.

Ilan lamang diyan ay ang T-shirts, pamaypay, ballers, hats o caps, ballpens, payong, panyo, bags, sun visor, at kahit anong “small tokens.”

Ang opisyal na campaign period para sa Barangay at SK elections ay magsisimila sa October 18 at matatapos ng October 28.

Habang ang mismong araw ng botohan ay mangyayari sa October 30.

Nagbabala rin si Elnas pagdating sa tinatawag na “premature campaign” o ‘yung mga nangangampanya bago pa magsimula ang campaign period.

Paalala niya, paglabag ito sa batas partikular na sa Section 80 ng Omnibus Election Code.

“Thus, a person who, after filing his or her certificate of candidacy, publishes or distributes campaign materials designed to support or oppose the election of any candidate, including him or herself, commits the offense of premature campaigning if such act or acts were committed not within the campaign period,” giit ng election official.

Inutusan na rin ng Comelec executive director ang pagtanggal ng campaign posters sa mga pampublikong lugar at establisyamento.

Samantala, pinayagan ng Comelec ang mga kandidato na magsagawa ng kampanya via online, pero ipinagbabawal pa rin ang pagbibigay ng regalo sa mga livestream audience nito.

“Candidates may receive in-platform gifts and game currency but shall not be allowed to give gifts to livestream audiences nor to run promotions and campaigns that will award in-platform gifts or give currency to platform users and livestream audiences,” sey ni Elnas.
