Miss International Jasmin Selberg excited nang makita ang ‘idol’ niyang si Catriona Gray
HABANG maraming Pilipino ang nagagalak na masilayan si reigning Miss International Jasmin Selberg, sinabi ng German beauty queen na may isang Pilipinang nais niyang makita, si 2018 Miss Universe Catriona Gray.
“I really feel really excited. So when I saw that she (Gray) will be the host for Binibining Pilipinas, I was like ‘oh my God, I’m meeting my idol, on top of getting to finally watch Binibining Pilipinas live,’” sinabi niya sa isang press conference sa Quezon City noong Mayo 26 nang tanungin siya ng Inquirer kung may hinahangaan din siyang mga reyna mula Pilipinas.
“I really hope that I get to bond with her. What she said, ‘you are never denied just redirected,’ really inspired me,” ani Selberg, na tulad ni Gray ay dalawang ulit nagtangkang makasungkit ng pandaigdigang titulo bago nagwagi. Unang sumali ang German beauty sa 2021 Miss Globe pageant kung saan nagwagi si Bb. Pilipinas Maureen Montagne, na hinahangaan din daw niya.
Makakasabay ni Selberg si Gray sa entablado ng 2023 Bb. Pilipinas pageant, kung saan nila makakasama sina 2016 Miss Grand International first runner-up Nicole Cordoves at 2014 Miss Universe Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa. Host ng palatuntunan ang tatlong Pilipina, habang espesyal na panauhin naman ang German queen, na tutulong ding makoronahan ang magiging kinatawan ng Pilipinas sa ika-62 Miss International pageant sa isang taon.
Ang reyna mula Europa ang magiging unang banyagang reigning international titleholder na tutuntong sa entablado ng pambansang patimpalak. Maidadagdag na ito sa iba pang kasaysayang naitala niya bilang isang beauty queen. Una na rito ang pagputol niya sa 33-taong paghihintay ng Germany na muling magwagi sa Miss International pageant. Makaraang makoronahan, sinabi niyang ikinagagalak niyang makapagtala ng kasaysayan sapagkat isa siyang mag-aaral ng kasaysayan.

Ibinahagi niya sa Inquirer na nakatulong din ang pagiging Miss International niya upang mapalawig ang kaalaman sa mga pinag-aaralan niya, ang history at philosophy. “With every country that I visit, I really try to learn about the culture, and also, of course, about their history. Because sometimes there are sensitive topics you shouldn’t talk about, or which you should actually talk about. So that is something really important to me,” ipinaliwanag ni Selberg.
“And of course, looking at life in a philosophical way in general really helped me to ease my mind and also to just be myself during my reign already,” pagpapatuloy niya, dinagdag na dahil din sa pagiging isang international beauty queen niya ay tila namumuhay siyang katulad ng “childhood hero” niyang si Hannah Montana, isang tauhang may dalawang pamumuhay na ginampanan ni Miley Cyrus sa sitcom na ipinalabas sa pagpalit ng milenya.
“So usually when I come to other countries outside of Asia, outside of Europe, people recognize me where I go or want to take a picture with me. So that is really something that makes me feel appreciated, and just so happy and lucky to be in the position I am in now. But once I come back to Germany, it kind of vanishes,” ani Selberg.
“Because, of course, Germany is quite big, and pageantry is not that important there yet. So I kind of get to relax once I’m back, and also to focus on my private life, for example, and focus on recharging so that once I go to all my travels, I can give that love and that calmness and all that radiating back,” pagpapatuloy ng German beauty.
