“October was the most stressful of all the months of this year so far but it was also when I lived the most, I realised.

“I listened to my body so much this month that I was able to slow down enough to do exactly those I really wanted to do. I read. I cooked. I rode as many motorcycle rides I could,” pahayag ni Rica.

Aniya pa, “If there was more time I’d perhaps even have Mt Pulag there. Sometimes the toughest times also produce the best times.

“Cause you’re also working so hard to see the best in your life, I guess, that you rly begin to see them.

“He forgot where he placed his pencil again. He also got careless with his math problems. I was already becoming anxious and caught myself thinking, ‘But how is he going to be in the world? How will he make it if he isn’t working hard enough? How is he going to earn his money?’

“Isn’t this the case for us parents? We often zoom in on the future as we watch the present?” tanong ni Rica.

“But something different happened to me this time tho. A voice countered my thoughts saying, ‘But is this the only way to live? Who said that you must drive yourself nuts to be happy? Who said that success was the only way people ought to live?

“‘What if he wanted to be slow-living and simple? What if he would rather be happy and peaceful and content than be world-renowned, an evident hero and amazing?’

“Pls don’t take this the wrong way. I am not false dichotomizing. There is a way to be both at once but I think that what I realized here was that maybe we actually have a very different definition of success, that our generation saw it as ‘to kill oneself for.’

“And to reconcile that with: what if my son just wants to be more sustainable than top of the tier kind of successful? Cause that is another way of being in the world which is perhaps better on his mental health and overall well being that he isn’t playing for the gods of this world,” litanya pa ng aktres.

“Sometimes I want to fastforward and take a peek at the man he is going to be. I just want to know if he is going to be ok. I think that’s what’s changed in me.

“Whereas before I thought he’d perhaps be an astronaut or a doctor or a lawyer, today I just want to know if he’d be able to have enough to support the kind of life he wants to lead and if he will be able to enjoy his life with his wife and kids,” mensahe pa ni Rica Peralejo.
