Laruan gawa sa recycled plastic mapanganib

NAGBABALA ang EcoWaste Coalition sa publiko kaugnay ng mga laruan na gawa sa recycled plastic na nagtataglay umano ng mga highly toxic chemicals.

Ginawa ng EcoWaste ang babala matapos isapubliko ang isang pag-aaral kaugnay ng epekto ng dioxin sa katawan ng tao. Ang dioxin ay nakita sa mga laruan na gawa sa recycled plastic na kalimitang kinuha sa recycled electronic waste.

“We urge the country’s toy safety regulators to seriously look into this pioneering study demonstrating the harmful effects of plastic toys made of recycled e-waste plastic on human cells,” ani Thony Dizon, Chemical Safety Campaigner ng EcoWaste.

Lumalabas umano sa pag-aaral ng Arnika, BioDetection Systems at International Pollutants Elimination Network (IPEN) mayroong masamang epekto sa bata ang mga laruang nabanggit na kalimitan ay kanilang kinakagat o isinusubo.

“We agree with the researchers’ call for immediate action to change the global recycling systems to prevent hazardous chemical content from entering the recycling chain. It’s a wake-up call for the government and the industry, as well as for consumers, that must not be ignored,” dagdag pa ni Dizon.

Sa kasalukuyan ay pinapayagan ang pagsasama-sama ng mga plastic upang i-recycle. Kasama sa mga ito ang mga plastic na may flame retardant chemicals at dioxins.

Ang dioxin ay ikinokonsidera na isa sa most toxic chemicals sa mundo.

Ang Brominated dioxins ay mayroong masamang epekto sa utak, immune system, thyroid at nakapagpapataas ng tyansa na magkaroon ng kanser ang isang tao.
