POC nais iurong ang iskedyul ng Vietnam SEA Games

HINDI lang ang Tokyo Olympic Games, na nabago ang orihinal na iskedyul, ang multisport event na paghahandaan ng mga Filipino athletes sa taong 2021.

Nakatakda rin kasing ganapin ang 31st Southeast Asian Games sa susunod na taon at nais ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino na ang biennial meet ay gawin tatlong buwan makalipas ang Summer Games.

“We will recommend that Vietnam hosts the 31st SEA Games during the latter part of the year, just like our hosting in 2019,” sabi ni Tolentino.

Nakatakdang isagawa ng Vietnam ang SEA Games sa Nobyembre 21 hanggang Disyembre 2, 2021 sa Hanoi. Ang Vietnam edition ay katatampukan ng 36 hanggang 40 sports, na ang karamihan ay Olympic disciplines.

Sa kasalukuyan ay hindi pa inaaprubahan ng SEA Games Federation ang nasabing iskedyul. Nang i-host ng Pilipinas ang SEA Games noong isang taon ginanap ang opening ceremonies ng Nobyembre 30.

Nagtakda naman ang mga Vietnam organizers ng SEA Games Federation meeting sa Hanoi ngayong Mayo 20 at 21 para opisyal na ipresenta ang kanilang programa at tuluyang maitakda ang petsa ng event.

“Those dates provide enough window from [the] Tokyo [Olympics] and will give our athletes who will compete in the Olympics adequate time to prepare,’’ sabi pa ni Tolentino, na isang congressman at national cycling chief ng bansa.

Nasungkit ng Filipino athletes ang overall title ng 30th SEA Games noong isang taon bilang host country matapos makalikom ng kabuuang 149 gold medals, 117 silvers at 121 bronzes mula sa 56 sports.

“Our goal in the next SEA Games is to stay competitive at a high level,” dagdag pa ni Tolentino.
