PH baseball team kayang maka-gold sa SEA Games

SINAGOT ni Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) secretary-general Jose Antonio “Pepe” Muñoz (ikatlo mula sa kaliwa) ang tanong mula sa sports media sa ginanap na ika-46 edisyon ng “Usapang Sports” forum ng Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) noong Huwebes ng umaga sa National Press Club sa Intramuros, Maynila.

KAYA ng Pilipinas na magwagi ng gintong medalya sa baseball sa 30th Southeast Asian Games.

Ito ang paniniwala ng Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) sa pangunguna ng pangulo nito na si Joaquin “Chito” Loyzaga.

Sang-ayon naman dito sina PABA vice-president Rodolfo “Rod” Tingzon, Jr. at secretary-general Jose Antonio “Pepe” Muñoz na kumpiyansang sinabi na malaki ang pag-asa ng Philippine men’s baseball team na makaginto sa SEA Games sa kanilang pagbisita sa ika-46 edisyon ng “Usapang Sports” forum ng Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) noong Huwebes ng umaga sa National Press Club sa Intramuros, Maynila.

“Naniniwala kami sa PABA, sa pangunguna ni president Chito Loyzaga, na tayo ang mananalo ng gold sa men’s baseball sa darating SEA Games. Sigurado na iyan,” sabi ni Tingzon sa weekly sports forum na suportado ng Philippine Sports Commission, National Press Club, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor), Community Basketball Association at HG Guyabano Tea Leaf Drinks.

Nakasama nina Tingzon at Muñoz sa nasabing forum ang mga coaches na sina Orlando Binarao at Eddar de los Reyes at ang mga players na sina Erwin Bocato, Jennald Pareja, Esmeralda Tatag at Wenchie Bacarusas.

“’Yung mga makakalaban natin sa SEA Games, tinalo na natin dati bagamat walang baseball sa huling tatlong edisyon ng SEAG dahil hindi isinama ng host country,” sabi naman ni Binarao, na miyembro ng national team na nagwagi ng ginto sa 2005 SEA Games.

Sinabi naman ni Muñoz na mayroong ilang Filipino-foreign batters ang gustong makasali sa national team.

“One of them is a very talented Fil-Dutch player, who already expressed interest to join the national team. Kaya lang hindi na siguro sila aabot sa SEA Games dahil buo na ‘yung national team at dadaan pa rin sila sa tryouts gaya ng iba,” sabi ni Muñoz.

Naniniwala naman sina Muñoz at Delos Reyes na nabibigyan na atensyon ang women’s baseball bagamat hindi ito nakasama sa SEA Games.

“We have a lot of good and talented female players around from different Metro Manila schools. Some of them also played for the RP Blu Girls,” dagdag pa ng multi-awarded baseball coach na si Muñoz.
