90 OFW positibo sa HIV

DUMAGDAG ang 90 overseas Filipino workers sa listahan ng mga nahawa ng HIV noong Enero.

Ito ay mas mataas ng 33 porsyento kumpara sa 68 OFW na nahawa sa kaparehong buwan noong 2018.

Ayon kay ACTS-OFW Rep. Aniceto Bertiz III, umabot na sa 6,345 ang kabuuang bilang ng mga OFW na nahawa ng HIV mula noong 1984. Ito ay 10 porsyento ng 63,278 kaso ng HIV sa bansa sa listahan ng National HIV/AIDS Registry.

Sa 6,345 OFW, 86 porsyento (5,471) ang lalaki na may median age na 32. Ang 874 babae naman ay may median age na 34.

Ang 72 porsyento o 2,283 ng nahawang lalaki ay sanhi ng male-to-male sex at 1,651 ay sanhi ng sex with both male and female.

Ayon kay Bertiz, sa ilalim ng bagong AIDS Prevention and Control Law na naging epektibo noong Enero 25, dapat ay bigyan ng mas maayos na suporta ang mga nahawang OFW.

“Under the law, the economic, social and medical support is to be extended to all OFWs, regardless of employment status and stage in the migration process,” ani Bertiz. “The preventive education seminar is to be provided for free and at no cost to OFWs or to the staff concerned.”
