LIKE the TV character who uncorks a bottle floating in the sea and gets rewarded with wishes from the genie he frees ay may dalawang kahilingan din ang resident scriptwriter ng GMA na si Suzette Doctolero prior to the pilot episode of her latest work, ang serye nina Mr. Dantes at Dennis Trillo.

The imaginary genie obliged, in fairness. No sabotage broke out as well.

‘Yun nga lang, Suzette overlooked a more important wish on her two-item bucket list.

Coco Martin’s series recorded a 41.1% ratings vis a vis Dantes-Trillo’s with 17.6%. Higit doble ang agwat.

Perhaps, had Suzette been more specific with her wish na sana’y kabugin ng GMA ang ABS-CBN ay baka pinagbigyan siya ng genie.

Having done TV work for a good number of years, it’s a common trend na kadalasan, any newly launched show is deemed a potential rater kumpara sa binabangga nitong programa.

Audience curiosity is a factor to contend with, lalo’t sa kaso ng Dantes-Trillo series na bugbog-sarado sa publisidad even while its predecessor (Alden Richards’ Victor Magtanggol) was still airing.

But switching audience preferences is another story. Kung ikaw ay isang Ang Probinsyano viewer mula’t sapul, it would be hard to pull you away from it.

For any viewer capable of such feelings, aba, pinanonood pa rin niya ito. He was part of the 41.1% ratings in the Nov. 19 episode.

Samantala, ang katapat nitong nakatala ng wala pa sa kalahati is one of foreboding. Playing devil’s advocate, the Dantes-Trillo series may just bring in consistent figures which are no match to Coco’s.

At baket? The PNP’s withdrawal of its resources, personnel, etc. makes for an equally exciting attraction the viewers await. Entonces, itsetsek nga naman nila kung tinotoo nga ba ng mga sangay ng gobyerno ang kanilang binitiwang salita, o kung may bagong pagbabalangkas ba sa kuwento or any anticipated change worth-seeing.

Meanwhile, in fairness to GMA, its series is putting up a good fight. The fact na hindi naman so-so ang inihain nilang serye is enough proof that despite the odds ay tuloy ang laban, life goes on.

For now, we have yet to hear from the network management tungkol sa kanilang isinet na time table for the series.
