Gomez: Di pa huli para sa Gilas sa Asian Games

HINDI pa huli para magpadala ng koponan ang Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) para lumahok sa 18th Asian Games sa Indonesia.
Ito ang pahayag ni 2018 Asian Games Team Pilipinas chief of mission Richard Gomez sa pagdalo nito sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum kahapon sa PSC Athlete’s Lounge, Vito Cruz, Maynila.
“Wala pang official withdrawal from the Philippine delegation. Dito pa lang sa atin sa Pilipinas ang announcement na hindi na tayo sasali,” paliwanag ni Gomez.
Magugunitang inanunsiyo ng SBP noong isang linggo ang balak nitong huwag nang lumahok sa men’s basketball tournament ng kada apat na taong torneyo dahil umano sa hindi ito makapagbubuo ng malakas na koponan sa takdang panahon.
Dagdag pa ni Gomez, may 12 araw pa ang SBP upang magbago ng desisyon at makaiwas ang bansa sa mabigat na parusa kung tuluyan nitong iiwasan ang Asian Games.
Ipinaliwanag ni Gomez, kasalukuyang pangulo din ng Philippine Fencing Association, na hindi makakadirekta ang SBP sa Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) at tanging ang POC at ang chief of mission lamang ang pinakikinggan nito.
“I’m hoping that SBP president Al Panlilio will change his mind,” sabi ni Gomez. “I am really hoping to send a team because number one sports sa ating bansa ang basketball and yet wala tayong representation. Remember, pag-upo ko walang basketball sa list so pinakiusapan ko sila na sana makapagpadala one week before the opening of the Asiad to confirm our non-participation,” sabi ni Gomez. “But definitely, bibigyan tayo ng sanction of which I don’t know ang
