PINAL nang inaprubahan ng National Food Authority (NFA) Council ang pag-aangkat ng 250,000 metric tons ng bigas sa harap naman ng ulat ng kakulangan ng NFA rice sa bansa.
Sa isang press conference, sinabi ni Secretary to the Cabinet Leoncio Evasco, Jr. na inaasahan naman na madagdagdan na ang suplay ng bigas dahil sa nag-umpisa na ang anihan sa bansa.
“The standby authority import 250,000 metric tons is approved and considering the timing of the harvest, the importation should arrive after the said harvest season,” sabi ni Evasco.
Kasabay nito, tiniyak ni Evasco na kontrolado ng gobyerno ang sitwasyon sa suplay ng bigas.
“We will ensure the continued supply of affordable rice and continue to champion for the best interest of the Filipino people,” sabi ni Evasco.
Idinagdag ni Evasco na dapat ding magtrabaho ang NFA para mapanagot ang mga rice traders na nagho-hoard ng bigas.
“I think the NFA should be proactive in monitoring bodegas of private traders,” sabi ni Evasco.
Ayon pa kay Evasco, dapat na kasuhan ng economic sabotage ang mga negosyateng mapapatunayang sangkot sa hoarding ng bigas.
