Taas pasahe sa MRT ipinababawi sa SC

Binuhay ni Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate ang panawagan sa Korte Suprema na bawiin ang dagdag na pasahe na ipinatupad sa Metro Rail Transit Line 3 dahil hindi naman umayos ang serbisyo nito.

    Sa inihaing mosyon, sinabi ni Zarate at mga kasama niyang militante na dapat ipawalang-bisa ng SC ang Department of Transportation and Communications Order 2014-04.     Ang naturang DO ang nagtaas ng pasahe sa MRT mula P10 ay naging P11 ang minimum sa MRT at dagdag na P1 sa bawat kilometro noong Enero 4, 2015.     “[T]he MRT3, despite the much-questioned and much-protested fare hike, continues to give its passengers poor and unsatisfactory service. It continues to experience technical problems that endanger the safety of the riding public,” ani Zarate.     Inisa-isa sa mosyon ang mga naging aberya ng MRT gaya ng diaper na sumabit sa overhead catenary system, at pagkalas ng bagon ng tren sa gitna ng biyahe.     “The worsening condition of our rail system in spite of the implementation of the fare hikes only proves the correctness and validity of petitioners grounds for their opposition to the 2015 LRT/MRT fare hikes, as embodied in the Department Order No. 2014-014 of then DOTC,” saad ng mosyon.     Sinabi sa mosyon na lalo pang lumala ang serbisyo ng MRT sa kabila ng dagdag na kinita nito dahil sa pagtataas ng pasahe.     “In essence, the petitioners argued that the unilateral imposition of the fare hike is a violation of the riding public’s right to due process; that the fare hike was without sufficient factual basis; and that the fare hike is unjust and unreasonable and contrary to public policy.”
