Pilipinas magho-host ng Asian Grand Prix athletics

NAKATAKDANG isagawa sa bansa ang ikatlong leg ng International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Asian Championships o mas kilala bilang Asian Grand Prix sa susunod na taon kung gugustuhin ng Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (Patafa).

Sinabi mismo ni Patafa president Philip Ella Juico na inialok ng IAAF Executive Board ang pagho-host ng Pilipinas sa huling yugto ng torneo na nilalahukan lamang ng mga pinili na pinakamagagaling na atleta sa buong rehiyon ng Asya.

“We have been offered to host the third and final leg of the Asian Grand Prix and we are now closely coordinating and talking to a lot of supporters and friends who could help us in staging the international event here in our country,” sabi ni Juico.

Isa sa pinagpipiliang lugar para maisagawa ang torneo ay ang bagong gawa na Ayala Complex sa Imus, Cavite at ang bagong gawa na Ilagan Sports Complex sa Ilagan City, Isabela.

Samantala, nakatakda naman lumahok ang Southeast Asian Games long jump record holder na si Marestella Torres-Sunang sa unang yugto ng Asian Grand Prix ngayong Abril 24 sa Jiaxing City, China  bilang paghahanda nito sa 2017 Malaysia SEA Games.

Nakatakda rin itong lumahok sa huling dalawang leg ng torneo sa Abril 27 sa Jinhua, China at sa Abril 30 sa ikatlo at huling leg sa Taipei City, Taiwan.

Ilang pambansang atleta na inihahanda rin para sa 29th SEA Games na gaganapin sa Agosto 19-31 ang isasabak sa 2nd Asian Youth Athletics Championship 2017 sa Bangkok, Thailand sa Mayo 20 at 22nd Asian Athletics Championship 2017 na gaganapin sa Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium sa City of Ranchi, India sa Hunyo 1.
