Tolentino nahalal bilang POC president

NAGTAAS ng kanilang mga kamay ang mga bagong halal na opisyales ng Philippine Olympic Committee (POC)na sina (mula kaliwa) Board member Atty. Jesus Clint Aranas, president Abraham Tolentino, Chairman Steve Hontiveros at Board member Cynthia Carrion matapos ang ginanap na POC election Linggo sa Century Park Hotel. REY NILLAMA

NAHALAL si cycling chief Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino bilang bagong pangulo ng Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) sa ginanap na eleksyon ng lokal na Olympic body Linggo sa Century Park Hotel sa Maynila.

Nakakuha si Tolentino ng 24 sa 44 posibleng boto mula sa 41 national sports association, dalawang Olympian mula sa athletes commission at International Olympic Committee representative Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski.

“Now that this is over, we can move forward and focus on the SEA Games,” sabi ni Tolentino, ng Congressman ng Tagaytay City, Cavite at pangulo ng PhilCycling.

Nahalal naman si Steve Hontiveros ng handball bilang bagong chairman matapos talunin si Robert Aventajado ng taekwondo, 26-18, sa botohang pinamunuan ng three-man election committee na binubuo nina Teodoro Kalaw IV, Fr. Vic Calvo OP of Letran at Congressman Conrado Estrella III.

Nakasama naman nina Tolentino at Hontiveros sa POC executive board sina Clint Aranas ng archery (24 boto) at Cynthia Carrion ng gymnastics (23 boto), na tatapusin ang nalalabing 15 buwan ng kasalukuyang Olympic term.

Nakatanggap naman si POC presidential candidate Philip Ella Juico ng track and field ng 20 boto habang ang mga board member aspirants na sina Monico Puentevella ng weightlifting (21 boto) at Lani Velasco ng swimming (19 boto) ay nabigo naman magwagi.

Ang katatapos na POC election, na ikatlo sa kasalukuyang Olympic cycle, ay nasaksihan naman ni India Olympic Committee president Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra na siyang representate mula sa International Olympic Committee at Olympic Council of Asia.
