PSC suportado ang kampanya ng PATAFA athletes sa Tokyo Olympics

TULOY ang suportang ibibigay ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) sa mga national athletes na kumakampanya para makapasok sa 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games kabilang na ang mga atletang mula sa Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (Patafa).

Ito ay matapos na makipag-usap si PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez kay Patafa president Philip Ella Juico tungkol sa mga plano ng asosasyon nitong Huwebes sa PhilSports Complex.

Ibinahagi ni Ramirez sa nasabing pagpupulong ang tulong na ipagkakaloob ng government sports agency kina pole vaulters EJ Obiena and Natalie Uy, sprinter-hurdler Eric Cray, runner Kristina Knott, shot putter Willie Morrison at marathoner Christine Hallasgo.

 Sa mga nabanggit na atleta, ang 24-anyos na si Obiena ay may malaking tsansa na makapag-uwi ng Olympic medal dahil kasalukuyang nasa No. 14 ito sa world rankings.

 Si Obiena rin ang unang qualifier ng Pilipinas sa 32nd Olympiad matapos malagpasan ang qualifying mark na 5.81 meters sa torneong ginanap sa Chiara, Italy noong Setyembre. Sinundan naman niya ito ng gintong medalya sa 30th Southeast Asian Games na ginanap sa bansa. 

“We have to capitalize on the success of EJ Obiena and other track and field athletes at the 30th SEA Games, and give them full support on their Olympic qualifications” sabi ni Ramirez.

 Ang PH athletics team ay nakalikom ng kabuuang 11 ginto, 8 pilak at 8 tanso sa sa 30th SEA Games.

 “Our goal is to sustain this momentum in the Olympics and 2021 (SEA Games) in Vietnam. We thank the PSC for its support for our athletes,” sabi naman ni Juico.

 Nangako naman ang Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ng P100 milyon bilang suporta sa kampanya ng mga Tokyo Olympics-bound athletes.

 “With the President’s commitment to our national athletes, it is more than enough to sustain their foreign trips and the core team of each Olympic-bound athletes” sabi pa ni Ramirez.

 Sa ginanap na 2016 Summer Olympics sa Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, nagpadala ang Patafa ng tatlong Olympians at ito ay sina long jumper Marestella Torres, marathoner Mary Joy Tabal at Cray.
