Naglaan ang Department of National Defense ng P4.9 bilyon para bumili ng anim na eroplanong pandigma para sa Air Force. “These aircraft shall be capable of performing close-air support air operations during day and night,” sabi ng DND sa bid bulletin nito. Inaasahang ipapalit ang mga bibilhing close-air support aircraft sa mga naluluma nang OV-10 “Bronco” attack aircraft ng Air Force. Kasalukuyang gumagamit ng hukbo ang mga OV-10, at minsa’y mga niretokeng trainer plane, bilang close-air support aircraft. Pangunahing tungkulin ng mga close-air support aircraft ang pagbabagsak ng bomba kung saan maraming kalaban ang ground troops.
