TATANGKAIN ng Arellano University na manatili sa solong liderato sa pagsagupa nito sa mapanganib na Mapua habang pilit na kakapit ang seven-peat champion San Beda sa unahan sa pagpapatuloy ng 92nd NCAA juniors basketball sa The Arena sa San Juan City.

Huling binigo ng Braves ang Letran Squires, 87-75, noong Huwebes upang agawin ang No. 1 spot sa perpektong 5-0 panalo-talo na rekord bagaman nanganganib ito sa pagsagupa sa Robins na hindi pa rin nakakatikim ng kabiguan sa 4-0 karta sa kanilang sagupaan ganap na alas-2:15 ng hapon.

Muling aasahan ng Arellano si Guillmer dela Torre sa pagtatala ng impresibong average na 19.2 puntos, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.4 steals at halos isang block sa kanyang unang limang laro.

“He’s one of the biggest reasons we’re doing good right now. Hopefully we continue our good play,” sabi ni Arellano coach Tylon Darjuan.

Matatandaan na hawak ng Braves ang prestihiyo sa pagpapalasap sa Cubs ng tangi nitong kabiguan noong nakaraang taon na nangyari noong Game Two ng kanilang best-of-three title showdown na napanalunan din ng huli.

Gayunman, may hiling si Darjuan para sa kanyang koponan.

“It’s too early but we’ll do our best to make it happen this season,” sabi ni Darjuan.

Sasagupain naman ng San Beda, na hindi pa nabibigo sa apat na sunod na laro, ang St. Benilde-La Salle Greenhills na nasa ikaapat na puwesto sa 3-1 karta sa alas-10:45 ng umaga na salpukan.
