Ramirez di pupunta sa Rio Olympic Games

HINDI pupunta si Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William “Butch” Ramirez sa 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games bagaman umaasa siyang maglalaro ng mabuti ang mga pambansang atleta sa pagtatangka nitong manalo ng kauna-unahang gintong medalya para sa bansa sa kada apat na taong palaro.

“I have no business going there,” sabi ni Ramirez, na patuloy na nagsosolong pinamumunuan ang bagong PSC executive board dahil sa hindi pa napipirmahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang appointment papers ng mga commissioner na sina Charles Maxey, Ramon Fernandez, Arnold Agustin at ang nag-iisang babae na si Celia Kiram.

Ipinaliwanag ni Ramirez na nauna nang itinakda ng pinalitan nitong administrasyon ang mga kakailanganin at pondo para sa paglahok ng pambansang delegasyon sa prestihiyosong torneo na gaganapin sa Brazil sa nalalapit na Agosto 5 hanggang 21.

“We are in full support of all our national athletes that have qualified and we will give them all that is needed to the best interest of our countries participation,” sabi ni Ramirez.

Ilang atleta na lamang ang hinihintay ng Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) na nagtatangkang makapagkuwalipika bago ang pinakahuling araw na itinakda at pagpapahayag ng mga atletang nakapasa sa standard ng namamahala sa Olimpiada na International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Sa kasalukuyan ay may siyam pa lamang na atletang Pinoy ang kumpirmadong nakapagkuwalipika sa Olympics.

Ito ay sina Ian Lariba (Table Tennis), Charly Suarez at Rogen Ladon (Boxing), Kirstie Elaine Alora (Taekwondo), Eric Shauwn Cray, May Joy Tabal at Marestella Torres-Sunang (Athletics), Hidilyn Diaz at Nestor Colonia (Weightlifting).
