Inaprubahan ng House committee on public order ang safety ang panukalang paglalagay ng help desk sa mga police station para sa mga miyembro ng lesbian, gay, bisexual, at transgender.
Ang panukala ay akda ni Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto na naglalayong gawin umanong neutral ang mga police station.
“Ultimately, this bill seeks to create a police organization that is able and eager to respond to any criminal or emergency incident, regardless of the gender orientation of the people involved,” ani Santos-Recto.
Ang itatayong LGBT desk ay maaaring isama sa kasalukuyang Women and Children desk na nasa mga istasyon na ng pulisya.
Inirekomenda ng National Police Commission na maglalabas na lamang ito ng memorandum para sa panukala pero sinabi ni Santos-Recto na mas makabubuti kung magpasa na lamang ng batas upang matiyak na magiging pangmatagalan ito.
“Coming up with a memorandum order with a resolution is good because this will provide urgent response to the discrimination problem faced by the LGBTs. But we have to think long-term,” ani Santos-Recto.
