PUMANAW na ang dating senador at public servant na si Rene Saguisag ngayong araw, April 24. Siya ay 84 years old.
Kinumpirma mismo ng anak ng former senator na si Atty. Rebo Saguisag ang malungkot na balita sa pamamagitan ng isang Facebook post.
Wala namang binanggit ang pamilya ng dating senador kung ano ang dahilan ng kanyang pagpanaw.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Papa and Lolo,” ang mensahe ni Atty. Rebo.
“We request that our family be granted a few moments of privacy as we grieve.
“We will soon announce details of the service honoring his life, and we look forward to the opportunity to gather and pay tribute to a life lived with integrity and purpose,” ang nakasaad pa sa naturang statement.
“Rene Saguisag was a dedicated public servant, and his tireless endeavors as a human rights advocate, senator, and writer stand as a testament to his unwavering commitment to justice, truth, and democracy.
“For him, expertise in law was a means to serve the poor and disenfranchised, and he provided free legal aid to those in need.
“We are grateful that, in his final months, he was able to spend time with relatives, friends, and countless supporters,” sabi pa ng pamilya ni Saguisag.

Naging senator si Saguisag mula taong 1987 hanggang 1992.
Naglingkod din siya bilang chairman ng Senate Committee on Ethics and Privilege at Ad Coc Committee sa Bataan Nuclear power plant.
Bukod sa pagiging lawmaker, nagtrabaho rin noon ang yumaong former senator bilang checker, laborer, construction site guard at messenger mula 1959 to 1962.
Naging spokesperson din siya ng yumaong dating Pangulo ng Pilipinas na si Cory Aquino noong 1986.
