Lala Sotto pinangarap ding mag-artista noon, may natanggap na mga offer…pero anyare?

MAY mga natanggap din palang offer si MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board) Chairperson Lala Sotto para umakting sa TV at pelikula.

Hindi sinundan ni Chair Lala ang mga yapak ng kanyang mga magulang na sina Helen Gamboa at Tito Sotto bilang mga hinahangaan at nirerespetong artista.

Nakachikahan namin si Chair Lala kamakailan sa tanggapan ng MTRCB sa Quezon City para sa courtesy call ng mga opisyal at miyembro ng Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd).

Dito nga namin siya natanong kung bakit hindi siya nag-artista tulad ng kanyang kapatid na si Ciara Sotto at ng kanyang parents na itinuring nang mga icon sa entertainment industry.

Natawa muna si Chair Lala sabay sabing, “Ayoko talaga. Well, when I was little…ang hypocrite naman not to admit, noong bata ako, gusto kong mag-artista.

“But noong paglaki ko, ayoko na talaga. I don’t know why. Parang nawala rin yung kagustuhan kong mag-artista nang lumaki na ako,” paliwanag niya.

Hindi rin ba niya ginusto ang maging singer dahil kilala ring magaling kumanta sina Helen Gamboa at Tito Sen.

“I sing in the shower. Ha-hahaha! Saka sa KTV. Kasi I think, my heart is really in public service. I really enjoy public service. I enjoy politics,” paliwanag pa ni Chair Lala.

Sunod na tanong namin kung may mga offer ba siyang natanggap dati na subukan ang pag-aartista?

“Yes, dati. Noong buhay pa si Kuya Germs,” napangiting sey pa ng anak ni Tito Sen.

Samantala, bilang pinuno ng MTRCB, masasabi ba niyang isa siyang liberal na chairman o conservative?

“I’m not liberal. I am conservative. It’s just that I want everything to be done legally. So what’s in our charter is what we follow.

“The MTRCB is not a censorship board. We are a classification board, which means we only rate and classify the material according to the age appropriateness that we apply,” pahayag ni Chair Lala.

Aniya, wala pa raw na-X na pelikula simula nang umupo siya bilang chairperson ng MTRCB,  “The highest rating we’ve given is R-18. They come back for a second review.

“We appreciate that the producers themselves do their own self-regulation in order to get a lower classification. So that’s what’s happening,” dagdag pa niya.

Nabanggit din ni Lala na marami silang gustong ipabago sa charter ng MTRCB, “I believe I’m not at liberty at the moment to discuss in particular the specifics of the amendments to the charter.

“Because we have yet to complete the draft of the amendments that I will be submitting to our lawmakers.

“Matagal na proseso ito but I’m so thankful that our lawmakers are very supportive, and they themselves have their own amendments. And of course, the MTRCB will always abide by the law,” chika pa niya.

Tungkol naman sa budget ng MTRCB, “Kami naman yung nagpo-propose. And we just ask for what we really need. Fortunately, we only get the personal services from the national government.

“The MTRCB has its own income. We have our own revenue, and that’s where we get our MOOE (Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses), our prgrams and projects and our capital outlay.

“But of course with the permission and in coordination with the DBF (Defined Benefit Fund) kaya hindi ganun kahirap ang budget ng MTRCB because we get it from our own funds,” paliwanag ni Chair.

Tuluy-tuloy pa rin daw ang pagre-review ng MTRCB sa walong official entries ng 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

“The Chair does not review. It’s the board members who review the materials,” ani Chair Lala, na member ng MMFF 2022 Executive Committee.

“But I am aware of who reviews what, and when, and the rating classification that is given to each film. Exciting nga, I’m so excited for the MMFF. Kasi, this is the first time na we’ve gathered a lot of films, di ba, tapos may variety.

“And nabubuhay ulit yung ating cinemas, yung ating movie industry,” sey pa ni Lala.

Sa ngayon, gumagawa na ng ingay ang dalawang pelikulang kasama sa MMFF 2022, ang “Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told” nina Aljur Abrenica, Edu Manzano at Paolo Gumabao, at ang “My Father, Myself” nina Jake Cuenca, Sean de Guzman at Dimples Romana.

Reaksyon dito ni Chair Lala, “Hindi pa tapos, e, yung aming reviews sa MMFF. Kasi, they have the right to ask for a second review if they’re not satisfied with the particular rating classification that the MTRCB has given them. So, may process.”
