ABS-CBN news reporter Mike Navallo is newsroom’s man of the hour.

The guy, a lawyer also, parried off SAGIP Partylist Rep. Rodante Marcoleta’s rants against him.

Obviously pissed off, Marcoleta protested Mike’s report that the congressman was behind  the franchise bill of some broadcasting companies and that he was in favor of a proposed bill where dual citizens  will be allowed to run for public office.

Mike based all his report on Marcoleta’s  legislative records.

“Matagal na ako sa Kongreso, wala pa po akong ni isang iniakda na prangkisa sapagkat ang sector ko ay urban poor. Wala po silang kakayahan na mag-ari ng istasyon (na) pang radyo o pang-telebisyon,” Marcoleta said.

Mike stressed that he got his report from the official website of the House of Representatives.

“Public record ‘yan. Nasa mismong website ng Kongreso na si Rep. Marcoleta ay inilagay bilang isa sa mga principal authors,” paliwanag ni Mike.

“Actually, dahil public record ito, puwede na nga natin itong i-report na hindi natin kinukuha ang kanyang side. Pero dahil gusto nga nating mapaliwanag niya ano ang nangyari at hindi tayo maakusahan ng bias, kinuha pa rin natin ang panig niya,” dagdag pa ni Mike.

Marcoleta felt it was one-sided because he was not given a chance to answer it all before it was reported on TV Patrol.

“(Ang) Allegiance po ay importante (na) ma-instill natin sa ABS-CBN, ang kaugaliang Pilipino. ‘Yung ginawa po nu’ng reporter na ‘yun na banatan po ako sa kabila ng pagsang-ayon na ‘yan kami ay magsu-zoom kinabukasan, hindi po ugaling Pilipino ‘yun,” say ni Marcoleta.

Mike said that Marcoleta was asking for a press conference.  He stressed in a Viber message that the media is being discouraged to organize a presscon for politicians.

“Good morning, Congressman! After discussing with my bosses, I was advised that we’re not allowed to organize press conferences for politicians or gov’t officials. May I coordinate with your staff instead? It will be best if they send out the invitations to the media for your presscon,” say ni Mike.

Mike added na he even called Marcoleta and his staff bago pa umere ang balita.

“Ang ganda ng boses. Good package.”

“Oo, pati kapani paniwala ang aura and style niya – abogado kasi.”

“Abogado naman pala si Mike Navallo eh! Hindi sya basta reporter! Wag nilang maliitin!”

Puro papuri rin ang inani ni Mr. Gabby Lopez, ABS-CBN Chairman Emeritus,  nang sumalang siya sa pagdinig ng network franchise.

Very cool and unperturbed si Mr. Gabby habang sinasagot ang tanong regarding his citizenship.   

Marami ang napahanga sa kanyang very cool demeanor lalo pa noong ipina-recite sa kanya ang isang bahagi ng Panatang Makabayan. 

“Hats off to Mr. Gabby Lopez for remaining calm. I’m not even the one being roasted pero gusto kong manaket.  The whole Philippines can hear his voice, except you Marcoleta.”

“We admire ABS-CBN’s Gabby Lopez for his calm, truthful, patient responses to even the most idiotic questions about his citizenship. Keep the faith Sir. It’s a long road that has no turning.”
