Boy Abunda lalayasan na ang ABS-CBN, babalik sa GMA?
SOME 10 or so years ago (sometime in April) ay tinawagan kami ni (Kuya) Boy Abunda for a possible (writing) job opening with an online site affiliated with ABS-CBN.
With us was also a writer from GMA. Ang itinakda niyang meeting place was a fancy resto somewhere in Makati City, pero sa mala-patio sa labas nito kami umupo.
Besides briefing us on the scope of work ay nauwi ang kuwentuhan sa iba’t ibang bagay, in the middle of which ay nasabi ni Kuya Boy na, “Alam mo, Ron, I’ve a feeling I’ll end up in GMA.”
That time ay wala na ang Asia’s King of Talk sa kanyang pinagmulang istasyon, kung saan isinilang ang kanyang kauna-unahang hosting stint via Show and Tell.
Kuya Boy’s last GMA show was Startalk bilang isa sa tatlong pioneer hosts, until he moved in to ABS-CBN via The Buzz naman.
Pagpapatuloy niya, “Don’t burn bridges.” In his heart of hearts daw, ramdam niyang katapus-tapusan ay sa GMA rin ang bagsak niya uli.
Why this for a topic?
For a while, nag-part-time teaching job siya sa PWU where he taught radio and TV sa mga mag-aaral ng communication arts.
Sa PWU rin nagtapos ng kanyang master’s degree in communication si Kuya Boy, at nakakuha ng kanyang PhD degree in social development.
Hindi kataka-takang marahuyo siya ng pagtuturo, his late Nanay Lesing was a public school teacher in their native Borongan in Samar.
Kung kami nga lang ang magiging estudyante niya, aside from his well-prepared lesson for the day ay kaabang-abang din ang kanyang kasuotan the moment he sashays toward the classroom (kasuotang ‘di hamak na mas mahal kesa sa mga damit ng maraming artista).
Pagtuturo, that’s one plan na maaaring pasukin ni Kuya Boy in the event that ABS-CBN faces shutdown (God forbid!).
Jumping the gun, mukhang may magandang senyales ang nagbabadya after the recent dinner which Kuya Boy hosted for the GMA lady executives, photos of which ay proud na ibinahagi ni Ai Ai delas Alas sa kanyang social media account.
Posibleng paksa on the side ang pagtanggap muli ng pamunuan ng GMA kay Kuya Boy, both as a talent (host) and as PR consultant. But knowing the man, he’ll cross the bridge when he gets there.
But he leaves his options open.
Lalo pa sa ngayon na walang late-night program ang GMA na may temang showbiz, na walang puwedeng mag-host who’s as brilliant as the King of Talk.
Sapantaha lang naman ito, but that dinner could mean more than just good food.
