Ex-PCGG chair guilty sa graft

GUILTY ang hatol ng Sandiganbayan kay dating Presidential Commission on Good Government chairman Camilo Sabio na tumawag umano sa kanyang kapatid na si dating Court of Appeals Associate Justice Jose Sabio kaugnay ng hawak nitong kaso.

Ang dating PCGG official ay hinatulan na makulong ng anim na taon sa kasong graft ng special division of five ng Sandiganbayan Fourth Division sa botong 3-2.

Ayon sa datos ng korte, tinawagan si chairman Sabio ni Atty. Jesus Santos, miyembro ng Board of Trustees ng Government Service Insurance System noong Mayo 2008 kaugnay ng kasong isinampa ng Meralco laban sa GSIS na nasa CA Division na pinamumunuan ni Justice Sabio.

Inamin ng ex-PCGG chairman na humingi ng tulong si Santos sa kanya. Inamin din nito na tinawagan niya ang kanyang kapatid upang impluwensyahan ito na paboran ang GSIS.
Pero sinabi ni Justice Sabio na boboto siya alinsunod sa tama. Sa huli ang kinatigan ng CA ay ang petisyon ng Meralco at nagpalabas ito ng temporary restraining order.

“The evidence on record confirms that accused Sabio indeed allowed himself to be persuaded and induced by Atty. Santos to call Justice Sabio for the purpose of persuading the later to favor the cause of the GSIS against Meralco,” saad ng 15-pahinang desisyon.

Ayon naman sa dissenting opinion nina Associate Justices Efren dela Cruz at Alex Quiroz dapat mapawalang-sala si Sabio dahil ang sinasabing graft offense ay hindi naman nangyari ng tumutol si Justice Sabio.
