Vico Sotto kumampi sa mga ipinakulong na nagpoprotesta

IKINATUWA ng mga militanteng kongresista ang pagpanig ni Pasig City Mayor Vico sa 23 empleyado na inaresto sa rally sa Regent Foods Corp.

Sinabi ni Bayan Muna Rep. Ferdinand Gaite na hindi dapat itratong kriminal ang mga manggagawa na ang nais lamang ay itrato ng tama ng kanilang employer.

“Nakikiisa kami sa pahayag ni Mayor Vico na hindi mga kriminal itong mga manggagawang nagwelga, at na makatarungan ang kanilang hinihingi na regularisasyon, disenteng sahod at nararapat na benepisyo,” ani Gaite.

Umaasa si Gaite na mayroon pang ibang mayor na gagaya sa ginawa ni Sotto na nagsabing tutulungan nitong makalabas ng kulungan ang mga inarestong empleyado.

“This is our kind of ‘yorme’, one who is discerning, does not turn a blind eye on injustice, and sides with the oppressed. Unlike Duterte and his ilk that vilifies, jails, and murders unionists and labor leaders,” dagdag pa ni Gaite. “This country needs more leaders like Mayor Vico, and lesser of the likes of Duterte.”

Kinasuhan ang may 23 empleyado at nakiusap si Sotto sa Regent na bawiin ang kaso. Kasama sa naaresto ang isang tricycle driver na naki-usyoso lamang sa lugar.

Sa kanyang Facebook account, sinabi ni Sotto na nakausap niya ang abugado ng Regent at sinabi nito na hindi nila babawiin ang kaso.

“In view of the foregoing, I will do everything within my power to help these 23 regain/maintain their liberty. 12 of them have already posted bail…. Yesterday I talked to the 11 still inside, and assured them that I will personally make sure that they are out on bail by Monday,” ani Sotto.

Sinabi ni Sotto na hindi kriminal ang mga ipinakulong na ito. “They are fighting for what they believe to be just. You can continue with the labor dispute without sending the poor and powerless to jail!”

Kinondena ni Sotto ang pagpapakulong sa mga nagpoprotesta.

“If you want to have a healthy relationship with our city, I highly uggest you rethink your position.”
