Direktor nina Bea at Charo sa ‘Eerie’ nilabanan ang nerbiyos
IT’S Mikhail Red’s first time to direct a horror film, “Eerie” and his first time to work with the lead actresses, Charo Santos and Bea Alonzo.
But Mikhail is very confident with his film, with his material and with his cast.
“Confident kami dahil this is something new. It’s a fusion of Western influences and at the same time local flavor. It’s something new even for the actresses, the cast. It’s Bea’s first horror film. It’s ma’m Charo’s comeback to horror. It’s something new for Star Cinema na international production with the Singaporean companies.
“It’s something new even in terms of business kasi ie-export siya for international distribution. It’s something new for me working with the studio, working in a horror. Sobrang fresh niya but at the same time ‘yung surface niya is a very familiar element, ‘yung urban legend,” he said.
“We start with something familiar as the story progresses,” he added.
When we asked him what he did have to undo or forego by directing “Eerie”, this was his elaborative answer, “Kailangan siyempre ‘yung inhibition, ‘yung kaba kasi medyo malaking project ito for me.
“Ang background ko talaga independent filmmaking, passion projects and galing din ako ng Cinemalaya and working with Star Cinema and a lot of veterans in the industry.
“I had to really be confident kasi sayang ang opportunity na ito so I maximized it. It’s more of adopting and learning new things. Mas iyon ang nangyari. It’s a very technical genre.
“Ang hirap niya, ang challenging niya kasi horror is visual, very technical pati ‘yung camera movement sobrang precise noon, eh.
“It’s about concealing and then revealing information na tama ang timing ko. Hindi naman puwede lahat nasa isang frame,” he added.
Napanood namin ang trailer ng movie at ang first 10 minutes nito during the presscon and we feel that it’s really nakakatakot.
Iba naman ang character ni Ms. Charo rito, talagang it was a very fresh role na hindi pa yata niya nagampanan before.
She plays an old school nun here. Iba rin ang presensiya ni Bea sa movie as a guidance counselor.
