Narito ang kabuuan ng IG post ni Kris: “I was 4 years old when i was severely bitten by our dogs… The memory is CLEAR because i know i had just started kindergarten and i was excited to tell my mom about school.

“Even as a child i was already loud. i went into the garden and tragically the 2 dogs had mistakenly thought that my shouts of excitement were meant to harm my mom, and they ran out of their gated area because it wasn’t securely locked.

“I still remember my mom holding me, afraid to pull me away from the dogs because they might sever an artery or totally bite my left leg off. To this day i have a deep scar behind my left knee, not very noticeable now because the color has blended into the rest of my skin.

“I can vividly picture myself wrapped in beach blankets soaked in my blood being rushed to the hospital. i have a total of 72 STITCHES. And i endured 14 or 21 (i know it’s either of those 2 numbers) daily anti rabies shots that had to be procured by my lolo Pepe and lola Ma.

“My mom shared this story in a speech I read years after she delivered it… she admitted having questioned her faith. her husband was still confined in Veterans’ Hospital after surviving his 40 day hunger strike. visiting hours were limited so her small garden was her refuge. and then it became another venue of pain.

“In her speech she said my dad had told her to stay with me, and not worry about him… i re-read her words during the months she battled cancer because it was a reminder of how strong she’d always been for us. She was our SHIELD.

“And that’s why i equate motherhood with STRENGTH. we have one difference that i’m trying to overcome, my mom never let us see her cry nor feel she was weak. she had it so much worse, yet she was a true warrior, my HERO… she willed herself to absorb everything for US, never once complaining.

“I want to be able to keep it together so Bimb no longer needs to feel his 1st duty is to protect his fragile mother… his responsibilities are lifelong: starting with me, then his kuya, and culminating with his own family.
