OFW na may HIV tumaas

TUMAAS ang bilang ng mga overseas Filipino worker na positibo sa HIV-AIDS.

Ayon sa datos na nakuha ni ACTS-OFW Rep. John Bertiz III, may 451 bagong kaso ng HIV mula sa hanay ng mga OFW mula Enero hanggang Hunyo. Mas mataas ito ng 14.4 porsyento kumpara sa kaparehong panahon noong 2017.

“All told, OFWs with HIV now account for 10 percent of all cases in the National HIV and AIDS Registry,” ani Bertiz. “We would urge OFWs who believe that they engaged in high-risk sexual behavior in the past to get themselves voluntarily tested for HIV.”

Sa 56,275 kaso ng HIV-AIDS mula Enero 1984 hanggang Hunyo 2018, 5,889 ang OFW. Sa naturang bilang 5,063 o 86 porsyento ang lalaki na ang median age ay 32.

Karamihan sa kanila—71 porsyento—ay nahawa sa pakikipagtalik gaya ng male-to-male contact ((2,062 ay male-to-male sex at 1,529 pakikipagtalik sa lalaki at babae).

Ayon sa Department of Health wala pang gamot ang HIV-AIDS subalit maaari itong mapabagal sa pamamagitan ng antiretroviral treatment.

“The DoH has 60 HIV treatment hubs across the country plus 33 primary care facilities that provide outpatient care services to returning OFWs and other citizens living with the virus,” saad ng solon.

Mayroong 28,045 Filipino ang sumasailalim sa ART hanggang noong Hunyo, ayon sa DoH.
