SINABI ni Education Secretary Leonor Briones na nakatakda siyang bumisita sa “ground zero” sa Marawi City sa unang pagkakataon bukas para masuri ang kondisyon ng mga paaralan na nasira matapos naman ang maglusob ng teroristang grupong Maute.
“We are doing all we can to speed up the construction and repair of the school buildings in Marawi,” sabi ni Briones.
Nakatakda ring pangunahan ni Briones sa Miyerkules, kasama si Assistant Education Secretary Alfhadar Pajiji, ng DepEd Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), ang pagsasara ng “Brigada Eskwela sa Marawi” at paglulunsad ng “Oplan Balik Eskwela sa Marawi” sa Amai Pakpak Central Elementary School sa Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.
Inilunsad noong Disyembre 2017, ang Brigada Eskwela sa Marawi ay pangunahang programa ng DepEd para sa rehabilitasyon ng lungsod matapos ang limang buwang bakbakan.
Base sa datos ng DepEd, 31,000 mga mag-aaral ang lumikas mula sa lungsod at napilitang ipagpatuloy ang pag-aaral sa iba’t ibang paaralan sa buong bansa.
Sinabi naman ni Briones na hindi lahat ng paaralan sa Marawi ang maaari nang magsimula para ngayong school year.
“We have surveyed [the area] even before the Marawi siege, there were schools that were deemed not appropriate or safe for classes. What DepEd did was to cluster the schools, after we observed that they were adjacent to one another,” ani Briones.
Sinabi pa ni Briones na sa 69 paaralan ng lungsod, mahigit 20 paaralan ang hindi magbubukas.
Mahigit 40 paaralan naman ang kinakailanga ng pagkukumpuni.
“Hopefully, we can accommodate all those who want to go back and enroll,” dagdag ni Briones.
