INIHAYAG ni Pangulong Duterte ang pagbibitiw ni Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre matapos ang naunang pahayag ng Palasyo kung saan itinanggi ang pagsibak sa kalihim.
“Lahat sila puro mautak but, may I just also tell you now that I conferred with officials, I accepted the resignation of Vit Aguirre my fraternity brother as Secretary o f Justice. I am now in the…looking for a replacement,” sabi ni Duterte sa kanyang talumpati sa Malacanang.
Ito’y taliwas sa naunang pahayag ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque na nananatili ang tiwala ni Duterte kay Aguirre sa kabila ng ilang kapalpakan ng DOJ.
Nauna nang lumutang na sinibak na si Aguirre sa katungkulan matapos ang sunod-sunod na kontrobersiya sa DOJ, partikular ang pagkakabasura ng kaso laban sa mga drug lord, kabilang na sina Peter Lim at Kerwin Espinosa.
