NILAGDAAN ni Pangulong Aquino bilang ganap na batas ang RA 10586 na nagpapataw ng mabigat na kaparusahan sa mga nagmamaneho ng lasing o nakadroga.
Ang sinumang lalabag sa batas na pinanangalanan na Act Penalizing Persons Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Dangerous Drugs and Other Similar Substances ay mahaharap sa tatlong buwang pagkabilanggo at multa mula P20,000 hanggang P80,000.
Pero kung nagresulta ang pag-inom ng alak sa kamatayan o pagkasugat. “The fine goes up to P100,000 to P200,000 and also the imprisonment if it resulted in injury. If the violation involves homicide, the fine goes up to P300,000 to P500,000 as well as the penalty for imprisonment,” ani Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte.
Idinagdag niya na kinakailangan ding sumailalim sa seminar hinggil sa maingat na pagmamaneho ang mga kukuha ng lisensiya at maging ang mga magre-renew ng kanilang mga driver’s license.
“If the law enforcement officer feels that there is any indication that the driver is under the influence of the relevant substances, he may pull you over, ask you to undertake a sobriety test,” ayon pa sa opisyal.
