Pilipinas host ng 2017 SEABA Championship sa Abril

Tiyak nang sa ating bansa idaraos ang 2017 Southeast Asia Basketball Association (SEABA) Championship na hahataw mula Abril 23 hanggang 30 matapos makuha ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas ang hosting right ng kumpetisyon.

Kinumpirma ni Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes ang balitang ito sa kanyang Twitter account na @coachot.

“We just received confirmation that SEABA has awarded the Men’s senior & U16 hosting to Manila, Apr 23-30. #LabanPilipinasPuso!”

Ang Pilipinas din ang magtatampok sa 2017 Seaba Under-16 Championship kung saan ang top 2 na koponan ay pasok na sa 2017 FIBA Asia U16 Championship na gagawin kasabay ng SEABA championship at ng 2017 SEABA Championship for Women na magaganap naman sa Mayo 16-20.

Mahalaga para sa pambansang koponan ang Seaba championship dahil ang magkakampeon dito ay aani ng pwesto para sa 2017 Fiba Asia Cup sa Beirut Lebanon sa Agosto.

Pitong beses nang nagkampeon ang Pilipinas sa kada dalawang taong regional tournament kung saan ang huling titulo ay nakamit noong 2015 kasunod ng paggupo sa Malaysia.

Nauna nang inanunsyo noong isang araw ang 24-man pool ng Gilas na pinangungunahan nina PBA stars June Mar Fajardo, Jayson Castro, Terrence Romeo, Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar at Paul Lee kasama ang mas batang 12 Gilas cadets na pawang nasa kanilang rookie year at anim pang bagong mukha sa pool na maghahanda upang makasiguro ang bansa ng silya para sa 2019 FIba World Cup.

Naidagdag sa training pool si TNT KaTropa forward Troy Rosario matapos magkasundo ang TNT management at PBA Board.
