INAASAHANG babawi ang Azkals Philippine men’s football team sa kanilang nakakadismayang unang laro sa pagsagupa ngayong gabi kontra Indonesia sapagpapatuloy ng 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup sa Philippine Sports Stadium, Bocaue, Bulacan.
Maghaharap muna ang defending champion Thailand at ang Singapore ganap na alas-4:30 ng hapon bago sundan ng sagupaan sa pagitan ng host Pilipinas at Indonesia ganap na alas-8 ng gabi.
Kinakailangan ng Azkals na maipanalo ang laro nito laban sa Indonesia ngayon at kontra Thailand sa huli nitong laban para makausad sa semifinal round.
Nangunguna sa Group A ang Thailand na may 1-0 kartada matapos na magwagi sa Indonesia, 4-2, habang magkasalo sa ikalawang puwesto ang Azkals at Singapore na tinapos ang kanilang unang laban sa scoreless draw. Nasa ikaapat at huling puwesto sa grupo ang Indonesia.
Hindi nasandigan ng Azkals ang bentahe na 10-katao na lamang ang naiwan sa kalabang Singapore upang itala ang importanteng panalo sa una nitong laro.
Napatalsik sa Singaporeans si Hafiz Sujad na binigyan ng red card matapos na bigyan ng arm tackle si Azkals team captain Phil Younghusband sa ika-34 minuto ng laro. Gayunman, hindi pa rin nagawa ng Azkals na maka-iskor sa laro.
“We’re obviously disappointed,” sabi ni Younghusband.
“When they go down to ten men, you hope to capitalize. It feels more like a two-point loss than a one-point draw,” dagdag pa nito.
Gayunman, sasagupain ng Pinoy booters ang koponan ng Indonesia na nagbigay ng matinding hamon kontra Thailand bago isinuko ang laban. —Angelito Oredo
