Adamson Falcons tinambakan ang UP Fighting Maroons; Ateneo Blue Eagles naungusan ang UST Tigers

AGAD nakamit ng nagbabalik na premyadong coach na si Franz Pumaren ang unang panalo para sa Adamson University Soaring Falcons matapos na biguin ang University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 104-85, sa opening game ng University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 79 men’s basketball tournament sa Smart Araneta Coliseum sa Cubao, Quezon City kahapon.

Sinandigan ng Falcons si Jerrick Ahanmisi na nagtala ng team-high 28 puntos, anim na rebounds at tig-isang steal at assist upang ibigay kay Pumaren, na dating hinawakan ang De La Salle University Green Archers tungo sa ilang titulo sa torneo, ang una nitong panalo matapos na magpahinga ng mahigit tatlong taon.

Dinomina ng Falcons ang kabuuan ng laro kung saan agad nitong itinala ang 28-18 abante at hindi na nito binitawan tungo sa natitirang tatlong yugto upang hawakan ang pansamantalang liderato sa walong unibersidad na torneo.

Nag-ambag naman sina Robbie Manalang ng 16 puntos, Dawn Ochea ng 13 puntos at Papi Sarr ng 13 puntos kasama ang 11 rebounds para sa Falcons.

Sa ikalawang laro, sinandalan ng Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles ang matinding ratsada sa ikaapat na yugto para maungusan ang host University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, 73-69.
