PILIT pupunuan ng San Beda Red Lions ang pagkawala ng starting big man nitong si Donald Tankoua ng Cameroon sa pagsagupa sa San Sebastian Stags sa tampok na laro ngayon sa 92nd NCAA seniors basketball tournament sa The Arena, San Juan City.

Hindi na makalalaro pa sa season na ito ang 6-foot-6 na si Tankoua matapos magtamo ng torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) sa unang yugto ng 90-82 panalo ng koponan kontra Emilio Aguinaldo Generals noong Biyernes. Malaking kawalan si Tankoua sa Red Lions na naglalayong mabawi ang kampeonato sa taong ito.

Nangunguna pa rin sa team standings ang San Beda (10-1) ngunit naghahabol para sa liderato ang Arellano University (9-2) at Perpetual Help (8-3). Si Tankoua ay may average na 16 puntos, 11 rebounds at 1.5 blocks kada laro para sa Red Lions.

“We can’t fill the vacuum he (Tankoua) left by just one or two players, we need to do it by committee,” sabi ni San Beda coach Jamike Jarin. Tinutukoy ni Jarin ang kanyang mga batang big men na sina Benedict Adamos, Calvin Optana, Antonio Bonsubre, Raniel Navarro at isa pang Cameroonian na si Arnaud Noah.

Ang 6-6 na si Adamos ay may average na 11 puntos, 7 boards at 1.5 blocks kada laro. Inaasahan naman ang Stags na magbibigay ng matinding hamon sa Red Lions matapos na itala nito ang 71-55 panalo kontra Perpetual Help Altas noong Biyernes.
