Hidilyn Diaz kauna-unahang Pinay na nakapag-uwi ng Olympic medal

BINATI at pinapurihan ng Palasyo Lunes ng umaga ang Filipina weightlifter na si Hidilyn Diaz matapos itong makakuha ng  silver medal para sa 53 kilogram class sa 2016 Rio Olympics.

Tinapos ni Diaz ang may 20 taon na pagkauhaw ng bansa sa Olympic medal.  Ang huling Pinoy na nakapag-uwi ng medalya mula sa Olympics ay ang boksingerong si Mansueto “Onyok’ Velasco sa 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Ayon kay Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, napatunayan ng Pilipinas na dumating na nga ang pagbabago rito dahil kay Diaz na tubong Zamboanga City.

“The Philippines and the President is honored and proud of Hidilyn Diaz’s silver medal win at the Rio Olympics. We extend our sincerest congratulations and celebrate the end of the medal drought. Truly change has come,” ayon kay Abella sa isang kalatas.

Nabuhat ni Diaz ang kabuuang 200 kilogram, 12 kilogram na mas magaan sa nabuhat ng gold medalis na si Hsu Shu-ching ng Chinese Taipei.

Iguguhit din ni Diaz sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas na siya ang kauna-unahang babae na nakapag-uwi ng Olympic medal para sa bansa.
