7 election ‘hotspots’ tukoy na ng PNP

Pitong lalawigan na ang minamanmanan ng mga awtoridad para sa posibilidad ng pagkakaroon ng karahasan sa panahon ng halalan, sabi ni National Police chief Director General Ricardo Marquez.

Natukoy ang pitong “priority provinces” nang magpulong ang mga opisyal ng PNP, Armed Forces, at Commission on Elections sa Camp Crame noong nakaraang Huwebes, sabi ni Marquez sa reporter.

“In layman’s term, those areas will be the most challenging for us,” aniya.

Di pinangalanan ni Marquez ang pitong lalawigan, ngunit sinabi na ang mga ito’y nilista ng PNP Directorate for Intelligence dahil sa pagkakaroon ng intense political rivalries, mga armadong grupo, at maraming di lisensiyadong baril.

Ayon kay Marquez, mas mababa ang inisyal na listahan ng “priority provinces” ngayong taon kaysa sa 15 na natukoy para sa 2013 elections, pero maaari pang mag-iba ang bilang sa patuloy na paghahanda ng mga ahensiya para sa parating na halalan.

“It’s a work in progress, every day is another day, especially in areas where there is very very strong partisan political rivalry,” aniya.

Samantala, inanunsyo ng PNP chief na magsisimula na sa Enero 10 ang nationwide gun ban para sa eleksyon.

Saklaw ng gun ban ang buong election period kaya ipapatupad hanggang Hunyo 8, aniya.
