‘Pandemic Effect’ ad binatikos ng netizens, Belo nag-sorry: ‘The film is insensitive and upsetting’

UMANI ng kaliwa’t kanang batikos ang Belo Medical Group dahil sa kontrobersyal na advertisement na inilabas nila kamakailan sa social media.

Dahil dito, nag-issue ng public apology ang beauty clinic ni Dra. Vicki Belo sa lahat ng nagalit at na-offend lalo na sa mga kababaihan na siyang pinatatamaan sa nasabing online ad.

Ayon sa mga nagreklamo, “insensitive”, “upsetting” at maliwanag na isang uri ng body shaming ang ginawang ad ng nabanggit na beauty clinic.

Ipinakita sa video na pinamagatang “Pandemic Effect” ang physical transformation ng isang babae  habang naka-lockdown sa bahay dulot ng COVID-19 pandemic. 

Mapapanood ang payat na babae na nakaupo sa couch habang nanonood ng balita tungkol sa pandemya.

Pagkatapos nito, makikita na ang girl na meron nang facial and body hair, with matching pimples at nadagdagan na ang timbang.

“Ano’ng nangyari?” ang tanong ng babae sa ad. “Tough times call for beautiful measures,” ang tagline naman ng nasabing campaign.

Ayon sa Gigil, ang ad agency na gumawa ng online ad, tinatalakay dito ang “negative energy that manifests itself in our appearance, without us even realizing it. This pandemic has been exhausting. Luckily, Belo reminds us that it’s here to take care of us.” 

Ngunit hindi nga ito nagustuhan ng mga taong nakapanood sa video dahil lantaran daw itong panglalait at pambabastos sa mga kababaihan.  

Agad namang naglabas ng official statement ang Belo Medical Group hinggil dito at mabilis na tinanggal ang video sa kanilang official YouTube channels at iba pang socmed platforms.

“We apologize about our recent Pandemic Effect film. Thank you for being gracious in letting us know your thoughts about it.

“We hear you. You helped us see what we failed to see, which is that the film is insensitive and upsetting. Because of this, we have taken the ad down.
